Quote of the Day

Jayne: Oh, I’m not gonna kill you, Dobson — what’s your first name?

Dobson: Laurence.

Jayne: Laurence. No, I’m just gonna cut on ya’ ’til you tell me how much they know.

Dobson: They know everything. They know every name, every record — they know how many nose hairs you’ve got.

Jayne: (Disappointed) Ah, see — they don’t know a damn thing. It’s all over your face, I ain’t even… I was gonna get me a ear, too. Aren’t you an officer of the law? Well, don’t they teach you how to withstand interrogation? Can’t even tell a damn lie.

Dobson: Okay. I can see you’re not an idiot.

Jayne: Wish I could say the same, Laurence, but… this is disappointing as hell.

Firefly – Episode 1 – “Serenity”

Quote of the Day

‘In the name of the law!’ cried the tipstaff again, making a most desperate attempt to break through.

‘Fuck the law,’ cried the seamen, and Bonden, grappling with the bailiff, wrenched the staff from him. He flung it right down the lane, fairly into the water, and said, ‘You’ve lost your commission now, mate. I can hit you now, mate, so you watch out, I say. You watch out, cully, or you’ll come home by Weeping Cross.’

The bailiff uttered a low growl, pulled out his hanger, and hurled himself at Jack. ‘Artful, eh?’ said Bonden, and brought his stretcher down on his head. He fell in the mud, to be trampled upon by Pullings and his friends, pouring out of the inn. At this the gang broke and fled, calling out that they should fetch their friends, the watch, the military, and leaving two of their number stretched upon the ground.

‘Mr Pullings, press those men, if you please,’ cried Jack from the boat. ‘And that fellow in the mud. Two more? Capital. All aboard? Where’s the Doctor? Pass the word for the Doctor. Ah, there you are. Shove off. Altogether, now, give way. Give way cheerly. What a prime hand he will make, to be sure,’ he added in an aside, ‘once he’s used to our ways — a proper bulldog of a man.’

Quote of the Day

Giles: Saw what?

Buffy: Death.

Cordelia: Death?

Willow: The Death? As in, ‘It is your time’?

Giles: Buffy, a-a-a frightened child…

Buffy: Yeah, but I thought I saw something. I’m not sure, I was really out of it, but…

Cordelia: But you do know that you saw death.

Willow: Did it have an hourglass?

Xander: Ooo, if he asks you to play chess, don’t even do it. The guy’s, like, a whiz.

Buffy: Maybe it wasn’t death. Maybe it was something else.

Cordelia: So this isn’t about you being afraid of hospitals ’cause your friend died and you wanna conjure up a monster that you can fight so you can save everybody and not feel so helpless?

Giles: Cordelia, have you actually ever heard of tact?

Cordelia: Tact is just not saying true stuff. I’ll pass.

Quote of the Day

“The Dark Lord will return, and Harry Potter will be in terrible danger when he does.”

There was a long pause, and slowly Snape regained control of himself, mastered his own breathing. At long last he said, “Very well. Very well. But never — never tell, Dumbledore! This must be between us! Swear it! I cannot bear . . . especially Potter’s son . . . I want your word!”

“My word, Severus, that I shall never reveal the best of you?” Dumbledore sighed, looking down into Snape’s ferocious, anguished face. “If you insist . . .”

Mal: Now I got to know how close the Alliance is, exactly how much you told them before Wash scrambled your call. So, I’ve given Jayne here the job of finding out.

Jayne: He was non-specific as to how.

Mal: (to Jayne) Now you only gotta scare him.

Jayne: Pain is scary…

Quote of the Day

He filled his lungs and hailed ‘Polychrest’ in a tone that echoed back from Portsmouth and stopped the mild gossip in the launch stone dead. ‘Polychrest!’

‘Sir?’ came back Bonden’s voice out of the dripping gloom.

‘Double up to the inn, d’ye hear me? Up the lane. Bring your stretchers.’

‘Aye-aye, sir.’

In a moment the launch was empty. Stretchers, the boat’s long wooden footrests, meant a row. The captain was no doubt pressing some hands, and they, pressed men themselves, did not mean to miss a second of the fun.

Quote of the Day

He did not know why he was doing it, why he was approaching the dying man: He did not know what he felt as he saw Snape’s white face, and the fingers trying to staunch the bloody wound at his neck. Harry took off the Invisibility Cloak and looked down upon the man he hated, whose widening black eyes found Harry as he tried to speak. Harry bent over him, and Snape seized the front of his robes and pulled him close.

A terrible rasping, gurgling noise issued from Snape’s throat.

“Take . . . it. . . . Take . . . it. . . .”

Something more than blood was leaking from Snape. Silvery blue, neither gas nor liquid, it gushed from his mouth and his ears and his eyes, and Harry knew what it was, but did not know what to do —

A flask, conjured from thin air, was thrust into his shaking hands by Hermione. Harry lifted the silvery substance into it with his wand. When the flask was full to the brim, and Snape looked as though there was no blood left in him, his grip on Harry’s robes slackened.

“Look . . . at . . . me. . . .” he whispered.

The green eyes found the black, but after a second, something in the depths of the dark pair seemed to vanish, leaving them fixed, blank, and empty. The hand holding Harry thudded to the floor, and Snape moved no more.

Giles: The ritual go all right?

Willow: Oh, yeah. It went fine. Well, it went fine until Angel showed up and told Buffy’s mom that he and Buffy had… Well, you know, that they had… you know. You do know, right?

Giles: Oh, yes. Yes. Sorry.

Willow: Oh, good, ’cause I just realized that being a librarian and all, you maybe didn’t know.

Giles: Oh, thank you. I got it.

Willow: You would have been proud of her, though. She totally kept her cool…….. Okay, well, I’ll tell Buffy you stopped by.

Giles: Would you, um… Perhaps I should intervene on, on Buffy’s behalf w-w-with her mother. Um, maybe… say something?

Willow: Sure! Like, what would you say?

Giles: W… Uh…  (Willow opens the door for him.) You will tell Buffy I dropped by?

Willow: You bet.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Season 2: Episode 17 – “Passion”

Quote of the Day

‘A gentleman to see you, sir,’ said the waiter. ‘A lieutenant.’

‘A lieutenant?’ said Stephen; and after a pause, ‘Desire him to walk up.’

A thundering on the stairs, as though someone had released a bull; the door burst inwards, trembling, and Pullings appeared, lighting up the room with his happiness and his new blue coat. ‘I’m made, sir,’ he cried, seizing Stephen’s hand. ‘Made at last! My commission came down with the mail. Oh, wish me joy!’

‘Why, so I do,’ said Stephen, wincing in that iron grip, ‘if more joy you can contain — if more felicity will not make your cup overflow. Have you been drinking, Lieutenant Pullings? Pray sit in a chair like a rational being, and do not spring about the room.’

‘Oh, say it again, sir,’ said the lieutenant, sitting and gazing at Stephen with pure love beaming from his face. ‘Not a drop.’

‘Then it is with present happiness you are drunk. Well. Long, long may it last.’

‘Ha, ha, ha! That is exactly what Parker said. “Long may it last,” says he; but envious, like, you know — the grey old toad. Howsomever, I dare say even I might grow a trifle sour, or rancid, like, five and thirty years without a ship of my own, and this cruel fitting-out. And he is a good, righteous man, I am sure; though he was a proper pixy-led before the captain came.’

‘Lieutenant, will you drink a glass of wine, a glass of sherry-wine?’

‘You’ve said it again, sir,’ cried Pullings, with another burst of effulgence. (‘You would swear that light actually emanated from that face,’ observed Stephen privately.)

Simon: I am very smart. I went to the best medacad in Osiris, top three percent of my class, finished my internship in eight months. “Gifted” is the term. So when I tell you that my little sister makes me look like an idiot child, I want you to understand my full meaning. River was more than gifted. She… she was a gift. Everything she did, music, math, theoretical physics — even dance — there was nothing that didn’t come as naturally to her as breathing does to us. She could be a real… brat about it, too. I mean, she used to — There was a school… a government-sponsored academy, we had never even heard of it but it had the most exciting program, the most challenging. We could have sent her anywhere, we had the money, but she wanted to go. She wanted to learn. She was fourteen. I… I got a few letters at first, and then I didn’t hear for months. Finally I got a letter that made no sense. She talked about things that never happened, jokes that we never… it was a code. It just said… “They’re hurting us. Get me out.”

Zoe: How’d you do it?

Simon: Money. And luck. For two years, I couldn’t get near her. Then I was contacted by some men, some underground movement. They said that she was in danger, that the government was… playing with her brain. If I funded them they could sneak her out in cryo, get her to Persephone, and from there I could take her… wherever.

Inara: Will she be all right?

Simon: I don’t know if she’ll be all right. I don’t know what they did to her, orwhy. I just have to keep her safe.
