Quote of the Day

(a group of rich, mean girls have been teasing Kaylee over her store-bought dress)

Murphy: Why Banning Miller. What a vision you are in your fine dress. It must have taken a dozen slaves a dozen days to get you into that getup. ‘Course your daddy tells me it takes the space of a schoolboy’s wink to get you out of it again.

(the rich girls storm off)

Murphy: (to Kaylee) Forgive my rudeness. I cannot abide useless people.

Kaylee: I’m not saying the 80-04’s hard to repair, it just ain’t worth it.

Older Farmer: It’s a fine machine, you just keep it tuned.

Kaylee: Cai bu shi. [“No way.”] The extenders ain’t braced.

Murphy: I’ve been telling him to buy the 80-10 for years.

Kaylee: Those ‘tenders snap off, don’t matter how good the engine’s cycling.

Younger Farmer: Miss Kaylee, I wonder if I could request the honor of….

Murphy: Wait a minute. Let her talk. She’s talking. Dance later.

Kaylee: By the way, the 80-10’s the same machine, they just changed the plating and hope no one noticed.

(everyone laughs)

Scotty: Mister Spock, you said a while ago that there were always alternatives.

Spock: Did l? I may have been mistaken.

McCoy: Well, at least I lived long enough to hear that.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Season 3: Episode 6 – “Band Candy”

Quote of the Day

‘We are pretty forward, sir. She will be ready for you as soon as her decks are dry.’ There was a superstition in the Navy that damp was mortal to superior officers and that its malignant effects increased with rank; few first lieutenants turned out before the dawn washing of the decks was almost finished, and no commander or post-captain until they had been swabbed, squeegeed and flogged dry.

Quote of the Day

Harrow: Whom do you represent?

Mal: “Represent” isn’t exactly the…

Harrow: Don’t waste my time.

Mal: Fellow called Badger.

Harrow: I know him. And I think he’s a psychotic low-life.

Mal: And I think calling him that is an insult to the psychotic low-life community.

Spock: Check.

Kirk: Checkmate.

Spock: Your illogical approach to chess does have its advantages on occasion, Captain.

Kirk: I’d prefer to call it inspired.

Spock: As you wish.

Buffy: Yes, you are. We are gonna get out of here, and we are gonna head back to the library, where Giles and the rest of the weapons live. Then I’m gonna take out the rest of these guys just in time for you to congratulate me on my sweeping victory as Homecoming Queen.

Cordelia: I know what you’re up to. You think if you get me mad enough, I won’t be so scared. And, hey! It’s working! Where’s a damn weapon?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Season 3: Episode 5 – “Homecoming”

Quote of the Day

Jack was about to utter some softening remark when Killick appeared again.

‘Coffee’s up, sir,’ he said crossly; and as Jack hurried into his cabin he heard the words ‘stone cold now — on the table since six bells — told ‘im again and again — enough trouble to get it, and now it’s left to go cold.’ They seemed to be addressed to the Marine sentry, whose look of shocked horror, of refusal to hear or participate in any way, was in exact proportion to the respect, even the awe, in which Jack was held in the ship.

In point of fact the coffee was still so hot that it almost burnt his mouth. ‘Prime coffee, Killick, he said, after the first pot. A surly grunt, and without turning round Killick said, ‘I suppose you’ll be wanting another ‘ole pot, sir.’

Hot and strong, how well it went down! A pleasurable activity began to creep into his dull, torpid mind. He hummed a piece of Figaro, breaking off to butter a fresh piece of toast. Killick was a cross-grained bastard, who supposed that if he sprinkled his discourse with a good many sirs, the words in between did not signify: but still he had procured this coffee, these eggs, this butter, this soft tack, on shore and had put them on the table the morning after a hot engagement — ship still cleared for action and the galley knocked sideways by the fire from Cape Béar. Jack had known Killick ever since his first command, and as he had risen in rank so Killick’s sullen independence had increased; he was angrier than usual now because Jack had wrecked his number three uniform and lost one of his gloves: ‘Coat torn in five places — cutlass slash in the forearm which how can I ever darn that? Bullet ‘ole all singed, never get the powder-marks out. Breeches all a-hoo, and all this nasty blood everywhere, like you’d been a-wallowing in a lay-stall, sir. What MIss would say, I don’t know, sir. God strike me blind. Epaulette ‘acked, fair ‘acked to pieces. (Jesus, what a life.)’

Quote of the Day

Zoe: I thought you wanted to spend more time off-ship this visit.

Wash: Out there is seems like it’s all fancy parties. I like our party better. The dress code is easier and I know all the steps.

Zoe: I’d say you do at that.

Wash: Don’t fall asleep now. Sleepiness is weakness of character. Ask anyone.

Zoe: It is not.

Wash: You’re acting captain. Know what happens you fall asleep now?

Zoe: Jayne slits my throat and takes over.

Wash: That’s right.

Zoe: And we can’t stop it.

Wash: Well, I wash my hands of it. It’s a hopeless case. I’ll read a nice poem at the funeral. Something with imagery.

Zoe: You could lock the door and keep the power-hungry maniac at bay.

Wash: Oh, no, I’m starting to like this poetry idea now. “Here lies my beloved Zoe, my autumn flower, somewhat less attractive now she’s all corpsified and gross…”
