Welcome to “Trailer Tuesday” where I talk about trailers for upcoming movies.
Marvel’s plans to premiere the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer during next week’s episode of Agents of SHIELD were altered when the trailer leaked online last night. Instead of waiting, Marvel decided to go ahead and officially release the trailer early, so without further ado I’m bringing it to you. Take a look below, and read on for my shot-by-shot thoughts and analysis.

How long will Pixar be able to get us excited by merely referencing their past triumphs? There may not actually be any limit on that timeframe, considering they have movies like Toy Story, Ratouille, WALL-E, Up, The Incredibles, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, all of which are permanently etched in the public’s consciousness. For their newest film, Inside Out, they use the familiar tactic (also used in their first trailer for WALL-E) of reminding us why they’re so awesome, and of course it works. But I’m more interested in the small taste we actually get of Inside Out at the end of the trailer. Take a look at it below, and read on for my thoughts:

Here on the Ship’s Log I usually feature trailers that strike my interest in some way, either by promoting a film that looks exciting to me or by using an interesting technique within the trailer itself. Sometimes, however, a trailer will leave me shaking my head, rolling my eyes, or snorting with derisive laughter. Take a look at this:

Today’s trailer is a fun one that really caught my attention when I saw it for the first time in the theater a month ago. Take a look and read on for my thoughts:

Since I’ve been a little lax with the Trailer Tuesdays lately, and I haven’t seen as many movies in the theater due to some family health issues, I’m going to try to post a trailer every day for a full week (starting with the one yesterday). Conveniently, the first teaser trailer for the awkwardly titled The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 was released today, and it’s a juicy one. Take a look at it below and read on for my thoughts.

It’s been three months since we got our first, crazy look at Guardians of the Galaxy, and we finally got a second trailer yesterday (along with this new poster, which lacks the perfect “You’re Welcome” tagline from the previous poster). The second trailer for a film like this is always the one that gives us the best look at the film. By this time, more of the visual effects have been completed, more dialogue has been recorded, and the trailer takes a deeper look at the film’s story. The first trailer’s goal was to establish the film’s unique tone and give us an intro to the characters, but this time around we got to see a lot more. Take a look at the trailer below and read on for my thoughts and highlights:

When you see the poster above, what story immediately comes to mind? Disney is banking on the fact that Cinderella’s glass slipper is such a recognizable image that that’s all they need to show to get people excited for the film. In fact, that same iconic image is carried over into their first teaser trailer. Check it out below and then read on for my comments:
Welcome to “Trailer Tuesday” where I talk about trailers for upcoming movies, since I’ve always found them to be fascinating.
I’m a big fan of stage musicals, I’ve seen a lot of shows on Broadway and countless others on tour, and I also happen to be a Four Seasons/Frankie Valli fan, yet somehow I’ve never managed to see Jersey Boys. (Though, interestingly, it’s coming to my town in just a couple months.) I was very excited when I heard that they were adapting the Tony Award-winning musical into a film. But when I first watched the trailer I wasn’t nearly as excited as I thought I would be. Take a look below and read on for my thoughts:
I don’t normally feature posters on here, but I’ve got to share the newly released one-sheet for Guardians of the Galaxy, that goes along with the new trailer released this week. Take a look: Continue reading
