Theories were confirmed! Mysteries were solved! Questions were answered! Many more questions were asked! Characters died! Tonight’s episode of Agents of SHIELDwrapped up the first half of season two with action, excitement, drama, and emotion. It also potentially changed the MCU permanently, and could potentially have as large an impact on the show as Captain America: The Winter Soldier did last season. We won’t see SHIELD again until March, with Agent Carter to fill the gap, so we’ve got plenty of time to theorize and speculate. Also, I’ve got plenty of comic book research to do just to keep up the appearance that I actually know what I’m talking about. But for now, read on for my instant reactions to the episode and the new developments for the show, and check back tomorrow for my full recap!

After another week off SHIELD is back with the penultimate episode of the fall half of the season, making good on the previous episode’s setup. Next week is the winter finale, promising some big moments and some bigger revelations. Tonight’s episode gave us a big confirmation of a popular theory, a serious cliffhanger, some thrilling fisticuffs, some great lines, and more Koenigs than you could shake a stick at. It may have also given us some FitzSimmons developments, but… well… more on that below. Everything is shaping up for a much more epic midseason finale, and while the prospect of waiting several months for new SHIELD episodes (even with Agent Carter in between) is not particularly enticing, I still can’t wait to see what next week will bring. Read on for my instant reaction to tonight’s episode, and check back tomorrow for my full recap of “…Ye Who Enter Here”.
*Update: My full recap of “The Things We Bury” is now live. Read it here!
The pace of SHIELD has definitely quickened as of late, and the revelations and new information are coming hard and fast now. Last week we found out that the mysterious alien writing was actually blueprints for a city. This week saw the beginning of the hunt for that city, along with some key answers to questions we’ve had about Whitehall, Ward, and Skye’s parents. We got the return of Agent Carter, some solid character development, and a dose of humor. It was a fast-paced episode, and everything is starting to feel like it’s building towards something big. Read on for my thoughts on “The Things We Bury,” and check back later for my full recap of the episode.
*Update: My full recap of “The Writing on the Wall” is now live. Read it here!
After a week off, Agents of SHIELD is back! Last week gave us an episode that helped to position the pieces for bigger things going forward, and tonight we took our first step down the path that episode laid out. Tonight saw the biggest movement yet this season on the Coulson/alien writing mystery, along with a big chunk of information about the Guest House/T.A.H.I.T.I. project, along with a parallel plot about what Ward is up to following his escape. There were surprises, revelations, and even a few jokes. Here are my quick reactions and thoughts about tonight’s episode, “The Writing on the Wall,” look for my full recap sometime tomorrow.
*Update: My full recap of “A Fractured House” is now live. Read it here!
Agents of SHIELD has been so solid this season, delivering one great episode after another. Last week was a particular highlight that advanced many different plots, reunited the team, and added Bobbi Morse to the equation. Tonight’s episode, “A Fractured House,” didn’t deliver quite the punch, but it still had some great moments, including a continuation of high-quality action this season. The pieces on the board were moved around tonight, and things are being set up for bigger events down the road. We’ll have to see how it all plays out, but for now here are my instant reactions to tonight’s episode. Look for my recap to post sometime tomorrow.
*Update: My full recap of “A Hen in the Wolf House” is now live. Read it here!
Last week’s episode may have had a lot of comedy and action, and was thoroughly fun, but tonight’s episode was all about suspense. Simmons’ undercover storyline came to a head, the team (and the audience) learned a lot more about Skye’s father, and the Obelisk came back into play. We were also introduced to an exciting new character in Bobbi Morse. And all of this was wrapped up together in an hour that had some surprising, dramatic moments and a healthy dose of emotion. Agents of SHIELD is really shining this season, and every episode thus far has been excellent. Read on for my instant reactions to “A Hen in the Wolf House,” and come back tomorrow for my full recap. Now that is what I’m talking about! After three tense, dramatic episodes, including catching up with Simmons last week, SHIELD ramped up the comedy and the action tonight, giving us something that felt like the third act of a film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tonight was full of many fantastic quotes (many of which are below), some great moments for Philinda (Coulson/May) shippers, and some all-around ass kicking. It had its drama too, and it’s character development. In all, this was about as close as you could get to my ideal SHIELD stand-alone episode, and while I wouldn’t want this every week, it was perfectly placed as the season’s fourth episode. Here are my instant reactions to the episode, and remember to check back later in the week for my full recap.
*Update: My full recap of “Making Friends and Influencing People” is now live. Read it here!
If tonight’s SHIELD episode gave us a closer look at what we can expect on a weekly basis from the show this season, then I’m excited to see what’s yet to come. After last week helped wrap up the season premiere, this week we got more of a stand-alone episode that still helped to advance the story SHIELD is telling. We got the return of (the real) Simmons, some new revelations, some new mysteries, and a good helping of suspense. So read on for my instant reactions to the episode, and check back tomorrow for my full recap of the “Making Friends and Influencing People” (I’ll post a link here once it’s up). Continue reading →
*Update: My full recap of “Heavy is the Head” is now live. Read it here!
Tonight’s episode of Agents of SHIELD picked up right where last week’s episode left off. In fact, in many ways it was almost as if the season premiere was split in half, and tonight was merely part two of an extended beginning. We got some (temporary) resolution to the Creel/Absorbing Man plot, spent more time with this season’s newest cast member, and the stage was set for the larger movements of the plot going forward. We got to see progression on some of the character arcs that were started last week, while some others were left out, and we saw the reappearance of a familiar face from last year along with the introduction of a new threat to SHIELD. In all, it was a great followup to last week, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store going forward. Here are my instant reactions to “Heavy is the Head,” and I’ll update this post with a link to my full episode recap once it’s finished.
Agents of SHIELD is back! I don’t know about you but I was an energizing mix of excited and nervous for the premiere, full of questions but eager to finally get back into my favorite show. Would the new season live up to the first? What’s the status of all of the mysteries left over from last season? What’s going to happen to Ward? What happened to Fitz? How will Skye’s new hairdo look? We got some glimpses at the answers to these questions along with a whole host of new mysteries for season 2 in tonight’s episode, “Shadows.”
I’m going to be trying something new this season as a result of SHIELD‘s later timeslot and in an effort to maintain a more human sleep schedule. After a new episode airs I’ll post an “instant reaction” like this one, and in the following day or two I’ll put up my full recap as usual, going into more depth than this quick reaction and covering the entire episode, with my customary S.H.I.E.L.D. thoughts to cap it off. Please be patient with me, as it will probably take me a little while to find the right balance between the two (and please offer any suggestions you might have on how to improve things). These quick reactions will be in the form of bullet points, not necessarily in order, and will hit some of the big moments from the episode along with anything that catches my eye. Some of them will pop up again in my full recap while others will only live here. Once my full recap is posted, I’ll update this post to include a link to it. So without further ado, here are my thoughts about “Shadows.” Continue reading →
