Quote of the Day

“Er-my-nee,” croaked Ron unexpectedly from between them.

They all fell silent, watching him anxiously, but after muttering incomprehensibly for a moment he merely started snoring.

Quote of the Day

Buffy:  We don’t even know if this is anything.

Giles:  No, we don’t.

Buffy:  And I haven’t had a day off in a while.

Giles:  True…

Buffy:  And a cranky Slayer is a careless Slayer!

Giles:  Buffy, maintaining a normal social life as a Slayer… i-i-is problematic at best.

Buffy:  This is the 90’s. The 1990’s, in point of fact, and I can do both. Clark Kent has a job. I just wanna go on a date.

Giles:  Well, I, I suppose it was a fairly slim lead…

Buffy:  Thank you, thank you, thank you! And look, I won’t go far, okay? If the apocalypse comes, beep me.

Quote of the Day

‘Murder’ is the word for a group of crows, like a flock of geese or a herd of cows or a convention of orthodontists.

Review: Edge of Tomorrow

After Oblivion opened last year and was greeted with a general shrug, people started asking all sorts of questions.  Had Tom Cruise’s box office clout finally faded, leaving him nothing more than an aging star doomed to appear in endless Mission Impossible sequels instead of more interesting fare?  Did Oblivion‘s failure combined with that of After Earth signal the end of the days when a big name actor like Cruise or Will Smith could draw audiences to the theater by the strength of their name alone?  Are original science fiction films dead altogether, leaving us nothing but sequels, remakes and reboots?  Edge of Tomorrow (and its box office performance) doesn’t exactly answer any of those questions, despite being a fun and entertaining movie, but it perhaps postpones the day when both science fiction films and the concept of the box office star are declared dead.

Quote of the Day

Worf: When we exchange vows, you must remember to present your d’k tahg to General Martok as a formal request for him to accept you into our House.

Jadzia Dax: But I don’t want to join his House.

Worf: What?

Jadzia Dax: I don’t want to get caught up in all those blood feuds. Every time a member of the House of Martok gets dishonoured or killed, I’ll have to drop whatever I’m doing and rush off on some quest for vengeance. It’s boring, Worf.

Worf: If you refuse, it will be a grave dishonour. General Martok will not understand.

Jadzia Dax: Worf, I’m joking.

Worf: So you will join our House?

Jadzia Dax: Of course I will.

Worf: I can see our lives together will not be easy.

Jadzia Dax: True. But they’ll be fun.

Quote of the Day

“Blimey, it was lucky you thought of a bezoar,” said George in a low voice.

“Lucky there was one in the room,” said Harry, who kept turning cold at the thought of what would have happened if he had not been able to lay hands on the little stone.

Hermione gave an almost inaudible sniff.  She had been exceptionally quiet all day.  Having hurtled, white-faced, up to Harry outside the hospital wing and demanded to know what had happened, she had taken almost no part in Harry and Ginny’s obsessive discussion about how Ron had been poisoned, but merely stood beside them, clench-jawed and frightened-looking, until at last they had been allowed in to see him.

Quote of the Day

Buffy:  Hey, how’s it going?

Giles:  Uh, alright.

Buffy:  That’s great! I see we’re still working on that Anointed One problem, that’ll probably take you a few days, right? I mean, that’s one obscure prophecy…

Giles:  Well, yes, there are a few interpretations…

Buffy:  So tonight’s looking slow, right? Probably best to relax and regroup, no big disasters coming, that is *so* good, I will see you tomorrow then! Bye!

Giles:  She is the strangest girl.

Quote of the Day

“Small potatoes” is a phrase which has nothing to do with root vegetables that happen to be tiny in size.  Instead, it refers to the change in one’s feelings for something when it is compared to something else.  If you were walking in the rain, for instance, you might be worried about getting wet, but if you turned the corner and saw a pack of vicious dogs, getting wet would suddenly become small potatoes next to getting chased down an alley and barked at, or possible eaten.
