Quote of the Day

Worf: It has come to my attention that Omet’iklan has made a threat against your life.
Benjamin Sisko: I didn’t think it was public knowledge.
Worf: You told Commander Dax.
Benjamin Sisko: Well, that explains it.

Trailer Tuesday: The Fault in Our Stars

Welcome to “Trailer Tuesday” where I talk about trailers for upcoming movies, since I’ve always found them to be fascinating.

“I believe we have a choice in this world about how to tell sad stories.  On the one hand, you could sugar coat it, and nothing is too messed up that it can’t be fixed with a Peter Gabriel song.  I like that version as much as the next girl does.  It’s just not the truth.  This is the truth.”  So begins the trailer for one of the most anticipated (and perhaps slightly dreaded) movies of 2014.  For the countless fans who have read the book, I’m sure you’ve already seen this trailer, but for those of us who haven’t read the book (or if you just can’t see the trailer enough times) take a look below and read on for my comments:

In Memoriam: Philip Seymour Hoffman

When a well-known actor dies, our minds tend to immediately jump to one particular film from their career.  Sometimes it’s their most lauded and famous role, like when my mind immediately jumped to Lawrence of Arabia when I heard that Peter O’Toole had died.  Other times the mind leaps to something more personal.  When I heard that Philip Seymour Hoffman had died yesterday at the age of 46, from an apparent drug overdose, my mind instantly went to Twister.  It’s not a role that won him any awards or critical acclaim, nor is it a film that’s particularly well thought of, despite its frequent showings on cable.  However, it is one of my favorite films (for many reasons, which I won’t go into here), and it will always be the film I associate with him.

Other pieces will focus on his Academy Award-winning role as Truman Capote in Capote, and rightly so.  Continue reading

Quote of the Day

“Oh, why don’t we have a night off?” Said Hermione brightly, as a silver-tailed Weasley rocket zoomed past the window. “After all, the Easter holidays start on Friday, we’ll have plenty of time then. . . .”
“Are you feeling all right?” Ron asked, staring at her in disbelief.
“Now you mention it,” said Hermione happily, “d’you know . . . I think I’m feeling a bit . . . rebellious.”

Quote of the Day

Worf: We consider Klingon women our partners in battle. They’re the mothers of our children.

Jadzia Dax: And a lot of fun at parties too.
Worf: True.
