Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – J.K. Rowling
“Ron,” said Hermione, in an I-don’t-think-you’re-being-very-sensitive sort of voice, “Harry doesn’t want to play Quidditch right now. . . . He’s worried, and he’s tired. . . . We all need to go to bed. . . .”
“Yeah, I want to play Quidditch,” said Harry suddenly. “Hang on, I’ll get my Firebolt.”
Hermione left the room, muttering something that sounded very much like “Boys.”
I just realized how Harry loves saying ‘hang on’.

He really does! He also says “OK” a lot. They’re both really noticeable in the audiobook version.

Great quote! Love the contrast between boy and girl motives. 🙂

Thanks for the comment! I love the way Rowling captures Hermione’s exasperation with Ron and Harry’s attitudes.

Me too!
she does it so often too…I love the scene after Harry captures the dragon egg during the triwizard tournament when Ron comes to apologize. He apologizes with intent but never with words or even actions…and then Hermione bursts into tears.
JKR does such a good job of contrasting boys and girls. 🙂
